Aristocrats (The Cull)

from Hawai'icana Dreams by Popoki House

about

*Aristocrats (The Cull)* by Popoki House is their searing musical response to the advocates of societal culling by so-called right-wing conservatives in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.

During this unprecedented moment in our lifetimes, white politicians attempted to make the case that the elderly, the sick, disabled, blacks, and other human beings were expendable and should gladly give their lives to bolster the economy and thus their own pocketbooks, a breathtakingly despicable and egregious point of view similar to that described by Frederich Engels as "social murder" in 1845. Popoki House felt compelled to counter the right's outrageous argument with a satirical protest song that reminds everyone of how history says these things usually play out. In other words, usually not well at all for the Aristocrats, as inferred by the touch of Chopin's Funeral March at the end. Just sayin'.

Recorded at Popoki House Studios in Long Beach, California from April-June, 2020,

lyrics

They’ll cull the Earth for money, they’ll murder her for power,
They’ll knife her just for threatening their fragile golden tower.
They’ll cull the Earth for money, they won’t be satisfied,
Until she does the noble thing and conveniently dies.

Absorb the hit, no hue and cry, rewards will come in the afterlife,
Tell Grandma Boomer to grow a spine, all for Wall Street’s bottom line.
The American way is sacrifice, it’s the land of thoughts and prayers,
From Uncle Sam, big industry, and poor poor billionaires.

This battle is as ancient as the stories that we speak,
Wealth it breeds a need for power, like gluttony and greed.
If rich folks hoarded cats instead, they’d get psychiatry,
We’d medicate and thera-pate to save society.
(AND THE CATS!)

Oh beautiful for guillotines, and tar ‘n feather floods,
A firing squad works just as well for waves of crimson mud.
Oh history, oh history, repeat thy bold refrain,
For never shall we tolerate Aristocrats again.

They’ll cull us all for money, they’ve left no room for doubt,
Grampa Boomer’s a lousy consumer, just wants a free handout. (WHAT A BUM!)
They’ll cull us all for money, they won’t be satisfied,
Until we do the noble thing and conveniently die.

Absorb the hit, no hue and cry, rewards will come in the afterlife,
Tell Grandma Boomer to grow a spine, all for Wall Street’s bottom line.
The American way is sacrifice, it’s the land of thoughts and prayers,
From Uncle Sam, big industry, and poor poor billionaires,
From Uncle Sam, big industry, and Wall Street billionaires,
From Uncle Sam, big industry, and poor Wall Street billionaires.
